Archibald Willingham Butt, military aide to two United States presidents, was born 26 September 1866, in Augusta, Georgia, and died in the sinking of the ship Titanic on 15 April 1912. Butt was a graduate of the University of the South and never married. He served as a United States Army officer in the Philippines (1900-1903) and Cuba (1906-1908) and was appointed personal aide to United States presidents Theodore Roosevelt (1908-1909) and William H.
